This informative Academy offers citizens the opportunity to experience various types of training Sheriff's Deputies receive and observe the vast array of situations which officers encounter daily. Citizens learn about patrol operations, arrest procedures, defensive tactics, units that specialize in everything from abatement of illegal drugs to reducing graffiti, to the all important role that Community Policing plays in Carson City. Last, but not least, this is your chance to try real jail cuisine.

The Academy is open to everyone 18 years of age or older who can meet the eligibility criteria. Preference will be given to Carson City residents, merchants, local businesses and their employees. There is no charge for the Academy, however, due to a limited number of openings, not all applicants will be able to attend.

Classes are held Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Carson City Sheriff's Office. A few classes will be held at off-site locations.

For further information or to request an application, contact Robert Rikalo, Reserve Commander/Volunteer Coordinator at (775) 283-7810.
